ALICE COHEN
Our featured artist for January is Alice Cohen. Alice uses found imagery and objects in traditional cut-out stop motion animation, and makes a range of work including music videos, gallery pieces and installations. In addition to her visual art practice Alice is also a musician, and her animations are particularly effective at combining music and image. Her videos for bands such as Ducktails, Weekends and her own recordings are beautiful, hand-crafted gems, recalling the work of Lewis Klahr and Harry Smith, but with a particular look and feel all of their own. Check out her videos for Fergus and Geronimo’s Where the Walls are Made of Grass and White Woman by Broken Deer below.
Alice Cohen’s animations have screened in Anthology Film Archives in New York and in festivals around the world, and her collages and paintings have appeared in galleries in New York City, San Francisco and elsewhere. Check out more of her work on Vimeo here.
